tiger embroidery

Michael was up at o’dark hundred on Monday morning (6/29) to leave by 7:15 for golf, and I left shortly afterwards for a bike ride.  By the time I got home and did all of my morning stuff, it was 9:30 before I got back to Sylvia’s quilt.  I worked on it for a bit, then spent an inordinate amount of time pulling together an order from my bread students for King Arthur Flour.  I did manage to get more embroideries done….which is good because I think I need at least 35 to complete a child’s quilt!

Good thing Michael came home when he did because the phone was ringing off the hook and I was late for my hair appointment.  He came in and said “I’m surprised to see you here…don’t you have an appointment”…and I RAN out of the house!!!  Michael came home VERY pleased with his 82, made possible by THREE birdies.  He had a late lunch, so didn’t want dinner, and I just noshed and read my book all evening.  I was really beat (it was just a very hectic day) and went to bed early.

lion embroideries, leftovers for dinner, Carolyn & rolls

I took a bike ride early Sunday morning (6/28), while Michael took Cookie for a walk.  Then it was breakfast out on the deck (it was beautiful…in the low 70’s) and the sky was such a gorgeous shade of blue.  I finally headed inside and downstairs to work on my sewing for the day.  I got the tablecloth all sewn together and pressed.  I think I’ve changed my mind about the backing.  I was just going to put something plain on it…but I have this beautiful, fall fabric.  If I can find a binding that would look good with that, and with the front…that’s what I’ll use…then it will be reversible  :~).  I also got a few more embroideries done:
I ADORE these!

Then I started working on trimming and binding Sylvia’s quilt.  We had leftovers for dinner (with the rest of the dough made into fresh crescents).

I LOVE leftovers (and lucky for me, so does Michael)….I got to play all day in my studio, and we still had a nice dinner.

After that, we settled in with popcorn to watch THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL, another fun romp with Indiana Jones.

Isn’t this a GREAT picture???  This is one of my Friday students (Carolyn) with her rolls…they look FABULOUS….wish I could have been there to taste them  :~)

Doug & Paula & dinner

I took a bike ride up to the grocery store at 7 AM Saturday morning (6/27) and Michael left for golf here at SCCL at 8 AM (praying all the while I am sure that the 70% chance of rain would hold off until he got home!)  When I got back from the store, I put together a pasta salad

and my whole wheat crescent roll dough (that I am testing for the next set of bread classes) before hitting the studio around 11 AM. I got the last 4 rows quilted on Pat’s quilt, and got the second 1/2 of my table cloth sewn together.  Around 3:30 I headed upstairs to pull the rest of dinner together.  I formed the rolls and left them to rise, breaded bone in, skin on chicken thighs,

made a plate of tomatoes (sprinkled with balsamic vinegar, basil (courtesy of Paula’s garden), and Parmesan cheese),

and got the corn on the cob ready for the microwave.  Doug & Paula

came down at 6 PM and pronounced everything delicious.  We played RUMMY-O for several hours after dinner, stopping for some mini-key lime pie part way through.  They left after 9:30 and I read while Michael watched TV until bedtime.

bread class, koala bear, pigs, temp, Pat & new quilt

Michael left for his ear appointment Friday morning (6/26), while I got set up for yet another bread class.  I had 3 fun ladies, 2 with machines and one hand kneading.
Lona & Carolyn

Kathy

When they left at the break (they leave while their dough rises for an hour) one of the women said “I’ve learned so much already”.  Those of you who know me, know that that was music to my ears!  After cleaning up the kitchen during the break, I headed to the studio to continue making things in the spare moments I have…I finished up some embroideries (some in the morning and some in the afternoon):

Yes, I did 2, I just took a picture of one of them

aren't these the cutest things?

and started to sew the tablecloth into rows.  The ladies left with their rolls,

Lona, Kathy, Carolyn

I got the kitchen cleaned up and Pat came by with her 2 latest Sterling School quilts.  We headed downstairs and loaded up the first one, and worked for several hours getting it quilted.  When I came upstairs to get us some refreshment, I saw this:
Dear God, will it never end???

Pat did most of the work and we got 7 rows done, even though this was a large part of the picture  :~):

love them Cougar-tinis!

She picked a quilting pattern I NEVER would have picked….but I ended up LOVING IT!!!

And I think I will use it on Shirley’s second quilt.  Pat left around 6, and neither Michael nor I felt like dinner, so I continued sewing until 8 PM, then headed up to watch TV before bed.

Paula, Kathy, Mary, lunch at CPCC, Elsie & Cookie, Michael & flowers a duex

Michael took the dog for a walk first thing Thursday morning (6/25), while I got a bunch of paperwork done.  I’ve been mostly working on an article I’ve been asked to write about the Volunteer Club, for our monthly LIVING magazine.   But….I think I finally finished it….I sent it out to the board for review before I forward on to the magazine.  Paula

picked me up just after 10 AM and after we picked up 2 other ladies,
Kathy

Mary

we headed into Charlotte.  We went to the CPCC (Central Piedmont Community College) Greenway Restaurant for lunch…and although I knew that’s what we were doing…I really didn’t think about it until we were there.  But WHAT a flood of memories it brought back to me.  This three-course lunch was prepared and served by culinary arts students as part of their classroom experience….40 years ago, that was me!!  As a senior at IUP for one day you were in charge of the food service in our building.  You set the menu and assigned all of the tasks to the other students.  I must admit however, that the food today was FAR superior to what we were doing so long ago.  The food today was something you would find in a very fine dining establishment indeed.  Breads were served with honey butter (they have their own hives for the honey), pimento cheese and jam (made by the students).  She crab soup (with lots and lots of shredded crab) was the first course.  I had shrimp & grits with andouille sausage and a red eye gravy reduction sauce.

Others had crab cakes and short ribs.  Another selection was beef wellington and it looked FABULOUS!!!!

Dessert was a vanilla, Bavarian cake (with an eatable gold flake garnish).

All this for a mere $13.00.  Needless to say, we all needed to be rolled to the car after lunch.  I was home by 2 PM and did a bit more paperwork before getting back to quilting….where I had some unusual company for a summer day:
usually they're only together in the winter

Around dinner (which I never did eat….still full from lunch), Michael and I went out to the backyard to photograph our (on steroids) 12 feet tall sunflower

which sprang up on its own from last year's seed

and 9 feet tall dahlias.

By 7 PM I was done quilting Shirley’s quilt.  I called her to confirm that she wanted me to finish it and then started to take it off the frame, while continuing to do the animal embroideries.

PS - the ONLY reason I have pictures of the luncheon (despite taking my camera to remember to TAKE pictures) was because Paula reminded me.....I am the WORST at remembering!  Thanks Paula!!!
