I found a computer on the ship....but much more importantly, a FULL keyboard, so I thought I'd send you all a message.

We are currently heading for a new/distant destination to see the eclipse.  Our original position would have put us in seas with 15 - 20 foot waves...something this small ship couldn't handle (thank goodness...can you say Poseidon Adventure!!!)  The sea is still very choppy, but other than walking everywhere like drunken sailors, we are fine.

New position in south Pacific will also give us about 30 seconds more of totality  (YAY!!)

The eclipse will be on Tuesday, July 2nd, in the morning.  You are 6 hours ahead of us here...could you all please do us a favor?  When you get up Tuesday morning, please start praying for clear skies for us for that day.  By 3 PM your time, the eclipse will be over....but until then, any prayers you would be willing to do would be appreciated.

That's it until we get home on Tuesday, the 9th.

thanks, Deb Devo

sweater for Africa

For those who have been asking about more J&D MOVE TO NC posts….Janice has been down-for-the-count with a very bad throat and ear infection.  She said she has not felt this sick for a long…long…time.  She has not been doing much besides trying to sleep and get better.  She is finally on antibiotics and we should be seeing more unpacking and decorating soon (or at least as soon as we get back from Tahiti!)

Michael and I spent Wednesday (6/19) packing, playing games on our tablets, reading and in general relaxing.  Anne stopped by to firm up final questions (she will be dog/cat/house/plant/garden sitting) and to take home some perishables.

We decided that the perfect thing to watch in the evening, was the movie UP….ADVENTURE IS OUT THERE!!!!  I finally finished my first sweater for Africa:

Just in time as I hope to start a new one on the plane.  I hope we’re ready……

Lunch at THE GREENWAY with Marilyn, Paula & Loree

While Michael was out running more errands for our trip Tuesday morning (6/18), I was at the library figuring out how to down load books for our trip….5 on the IPAD for him and 5 on the KINDLE for me :~).  I was home in time to be picked up by Paula & Marilyn.  We picked up Loree at the Lake House and headed into Charlotte for lunch at the GREENWAY Restaurant.  I am totally irritated with myself that I forgot to take pictures of these lovely ladies…so you’ll have to enjoy these old pictures instead:
Mariyn

Paula

Loree

Our lunch  was WONDERFUL:

starting with our breads and spreads:

Our soup was gazpacho:

And then we all ordered something different for our main course.  I got the fish & chips...with homemade catsup...the batter was so light, had a wonderful flavor and wasn't greasy in the slightest:

Loree got the chicken:

Paula got the filet:

and Marilyn got the shrimp and grits:

Our dessert was a dark chocolate cremeux (a dense, soft, classic pudding), with strawberries and a bit of whipped cream, along with a sugar cookie…heaven!

After lunch Paula drove to the KNIGHT”S stadium so that I could turn in vouchers and pick up 4 tickets for the guys to see a game on July 27th.  We were home by 3 PM and I spent the rest of the afternoon downloading additional items to my KINDLE for the upcoming trip.  We had KFC potpies for dinner, then Michael got picked up by Larry for the movies…they saw  LATE NIGHT (something I’d like to see once we get home, but I doubt it will still be at the theatres!!)

I stayed home and pulled together my crafts (knitting & beading) to take on vacation.  BTW – ATTENTION FIBER FLOOZIES….there are less than 3 months to our retreat….start thinking about what you’re bringing with you…it will be here before you know it  :~).

And more beautiful pictures of our beautiful family:

MESIG Show & Tell, THE FISH MARKET, luggage tags

Michael left for breakfast out and then golf Monday morning (6/17), while I headed to my studio, determined to make more luggage tags for our trip.

Anne stopped by at 11:30 to bring me goodies from Sweet & Savory, followed by Paula who stopped down to talk.  I kicked them both out at 12:15 as I wanted to finish the current luggage tag before leaving for Machine Embroidery.

We had tons of great Show & Tell:

this is a memory pillow

made out of a man's shirt

this was done as a 'paint chip' quilting challenge

and I was home by 3 PM.

Michael and I talked for a bit (he had a great day on the golf course) and then got cleaned up and headed out to pick up Gale & Phil for dinner at THE FISH MARKET.  I was disappointed that they changed the sides for their scallops, but Michael liked them:

Gale and I got shrimp & grits instead:

it had just enough heat!

while Phil had the trout.  Our meals were wonderful and Gale & Phil split cheesecake for dessert:

while Michael and I split a flourless chocolate cake:

After we were home, we spent a bit of time downstairs and I finally finished up the 4th luggage tag:

these wrap around your luggage handles

before heading upstairs to watch a show on the South Pacific.

My cover for my KINDLE finally made it....I LOVE it:

AJ, pancakes, Sandy's quilt done

We decided to have a big fry-up Sunday morning (6/16), but paused 1/2 way through cooking to SKYPE with AJ….she is growing so fast and talking about all sorts of things….of course only her mom and dad can understand her, but that’s pretty typical for a 2 year old.  What a beautiful family!!

I made pancakes because I have yoghurt to use up.  Most recipes will tell you that if you don’t have buttermilk, use a tablespoon of vinegar/lemon juice stirred into a cup of milk.  A MUCH better solution is to use 1/2 yoghurt and 1/2 milk….makes a liquid much more the consistency of buttermilk.  Anyway, my honey made potatoes and bacon:

while I made blueberry pancakes…..

Everything was yummy!

After that he headed out to CVS and to gas up the car, while I headed to the studio to get cracking on the quilt.  I got it all loaded and basted:

and set up and kicked off the program:

I worked on it all afternoon and by dinnertime, it was done:

Michael and I split a grilled cheese sandwich for dinner (we weren’t very hungry after that tremendous breakfast) and he continued to watch the US OPEN while I worked on my hourglass quilt.
