wings, wings and more wings

We were up fairly early on Sunday (10/8) and after a wonderful omelet for breakfast, we headed downstairs to get started.    We worked diligently until 2 PM, getting lots of dragonfly wings done in the process (yes, we're doing 3 at a time in each colorway):

We did stop at one point for a snack…..other people have pool boys, we have a CHEETO boy :~):

At 2 PM Michael and I headed out for our first symphony of the new season in Charlotte.  The first half featured legendary pianist Garrick Ohlsson performing Beethoven's innovative and virtuosic fourth piano concerto.  They lowered a screen and there was a camera pointing directly down onto the keyboard and Garrick’s hands….it was truly incredible watching him play, especially without music.  He got a fully deserved standing ovation once done.  And the second half was Beethoven’s 5th symphony…it was thrilling to hear it performed live and that feeling stayed with me well after we got home.  Unfortunately we hit Panther Stadium traffic as we left, but we wound our way here and there and managed to get out of most of it.

BG had dinner ready for us when we got home….a Mexican lasagna I had previously thawed out, and after that, we headed back to the studio to continue working.  By the time we went to bed, the last of our 60 wings were done:

I guess I really should say the fusing of the colors on the black background was done....stitching all of that down will be another matter entirely!

We are way ahead of schedule, so we hope to get in a little baking tomorrow.

And I know I wrote to some of you sharing the news that I had won a pattern from one of the quilting blogs I read....it came on Saturday and both BG and I want to make it:

An eye opening article on the migrant children left behind, and what is happening under cover of darkness: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/30/us/migrant-children-tent-city-texas.html

And finally, words from Colin Powell, a man with a thoughtful perspective on some of the things happening with America today: https://www.aol.com/article/news/2018/10/08/colin-powell-trump-has-changed-we-the-people-to-me-the-president/23553940/
