party before DON"T BE AFRIAD OF THE DARK

Silly me….I forgot the most important part of Friday night!   A neighbor called us in the afternoon…and we set the timer on our stove.  At 9:20 PM, we walked outside and met our other neighbors watching the INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION fly by overhead…it was thrilling!  The ISS looks like an incredibly bright, fast-moving star.  It has no flashing lights…it seemingly just glides across the sky.  It moves like the wind (17,150 miles per hour, or about 5 miles a second) and it was all over in 6 minutes.  I never thought I would see it….WAY cool!

Michael made a wonderful breakfast on Saturday (8/1) (mushroom and cheese omelet with toast) before heading out for golfing here at SCCL.  I was up early to clean up the house to get ready for our pot luck in the evening.  I alternated cleaning up for a bit, with sewing on my jelly roll for a bit…that way it didn’t seem so bad to get the house ready :~).  Michael came home from golf around 2 PM….pleased with his 86.  I made up lemonade and  unsweetened iced tea and the hordes started arriving at 5:15:  We had 34 people over for a pot luck dinner and the food was incredible:

The desserts were wonderful too:

almond cheesecake on the left was HEAVEN!!

If the noise level was any indication, people seemed to be having a really good time,

The nicest thing about the evening?  We had several people join us that we had never met before....AND...I got lots of compliments on my quilts from the new people.  One woman said she never liked quilts before because they were so old fashioned...but looking at mine she discovered they could look modern too!

We all left at 6:30 for DON”T BE AFRIAD OF THE DARK in Pineville.  We thought the play was a riot…we knew several members of the cast…and it was nice to talk to them after it was over.  We were home by 10:30 and fired up the dishwasher and read until it was finished before collapsing in bed.
