6 quilts ready to go, Lucy

I took another bike ride Monday morning (3/30) as Michael left for golf.  And again I extended my ride just a bit, and will keep to that route for 4 – 5 days until my body becomes adjusted to it!  I got my blog out and ran through my emails before pulling together more quilts.  I have labels pinned on them and the binding in a baggie all ready to go:

My honey came home just after 1 PM, having scored his personal best on our home course:  SEVENTY-SIX!!!!!  He was thrilled and said everything was just working today!

I spent all of the day getting my 3 QoV off of the frame and ripping out the basting, burying ends and trimming.  I now have 6 quilts ready to go with binding and labels.:

I wonder if I’m going to have a ‘helper’ tomorrow:

now that the pile of quilts has shrunk to 1???

3rd QoV quilted, some bindings done

Michael took Cookie for a walk Sunday morning (3/29), while I took a short bike ride (although I did expand my route a tiny bit).  After that all 3 of us took a ride in the golf cart over to Pat’s house to deliver a couple of things to her paper tube before heading home.

Michael vacuumed all of the pollen off of the lanair so that he could have breakfast out there (leftover pancakes & bacon):

It was so nice outside I decided to join him:

eggs and sausage patties

I finally made my way to the studio and got my 3rd QoV loaded up and basted:

and kicked off a new quilting design:

I worked on that all afternoon and Michael was with me a good bit of that time, so we had company:

My quilt was finally finished before I headed upstairs at 8 PM:

I also got the binding made for 2 quilts:

I worked on cleaning up my labels while watching TV, and got 2 of them done:

They each take about an hour.

some labels done

Saturday (3/28) was day 4 of bike riding and day 4 of golf (Mon-Thur-Fri-Sat) as well :~).  By the time I got all of my chores done, it was 11 AM and I headed to the studio.  I am bartering with another Thursday quilter…we are exchanging binding services for quilting services, so my focus for Saturday was making binding and labels.  I got binding done for 2 of my QoV’s and also 4 labels done:

I also finished off quilting on the second QoV on the frame, only 1 more to load up and quilt:

It was a beautiful afternoon and Michael and I spent time on the lanair before picking up our fish sandwiches from ARBY’s for dinner.  I just wasn’t even motivated to clean up my labels while watching TV…I just sat there……I’ve gotta STOP that….this time is too precious to waste.

Retreat with Paula - day 2

UNPRESEDENTED – That word is certainly being used a lot lately….but with good reason.  As of Thursday, the US leads the world in the most number of confirmed cases of COVID-19.  On Thursday, the US saw an increase of more than 15,000 cases in one day -- a shocking surge that can be explained by both the spread of the virus and increased testing after weeks of shortages -- pushing the total number of confirmed cases over 82,000. China, in comparison, has reported 81,285 cases.

There is a fundamental difference between China and the US. China has broken the spread of the virus with a lockdown that first started in Wuhan on January 23 and is now being lifted in stages; only a few dozen new cases are allegedly confirmed each day, and most of these are apparently introduced from abroad. The US has not broken the epidemic. And if guidelines to stay at home are lifted by Easter (as has been proposed….being in effect for only weeks instead of months), we will fail to stop the epidemic and millions more will be infected. Even with active control, we might be facing around 81,000 deaths by July according to a new detailed analysis from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington in Seattle. I received emails with 2 interesting videos that helped me to understand

that even though I am home a LOT, I should still be washing my hands, as

the virus can be introduced to, and live on in your home in a number of

and updates from Dr.  Fauci:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8A3jiM2FNR8

I am posting these hoping to help people.  At this point in time I do not believe that the federal government is giving out the best information on what should be done, since our leader is still somewhat convinced it will go away, and/or a few weeks of distancing and some malaria drugs (which have killed one person) will suffice to end the pandemic.  When our quilt group was disbanded a few weeks ago, at that time I said to Paula ‘‘maybe by late summer we’ll be back together”.  I certainly think that is a more realistic timeframe than ‘Easter’.  Confirmed cases of COVID-19 are still on the increase in this country; we have not seen the worst of it yet.

****************************

Friday morning (3/27) was my 3rd day of bike riding.  And even though my ride is less than 20 minutes (for now), my derriere is the sorest part of my body and the hardest part to toughen up  :~).

Michael left for golf at the same time I did for my bike ride, and when I got home I took a shower, got my blog out, read some of my emails and got ready for Paula to arrive.  We had the second day of our mini-retreat….and quite truthfully…it was wonderful:

Cookie continued to try out different chairs in the kitchen

Paula even provided lunch....cauliflower rice with cheese and yummy tasting ham

I love this new pattern and hope to do it eventually

Paula packed up and headed home right around the time that Michael came home at 2 PM.  He scored an 89, but said he had a good time with the guys.  After much discussion and thought, he has decided to confine his golfing to our home course, where he has NO physical contact with anyone for paying for golf or carts or anything like that.

After that I did a lot of research on the current info available on the virus, before getting the second border on my first men’s quilt:

this is ready for quilting now

Michael made a crab cake with mac ‘n’ cheese for his dinner, and I don’t remember what I had before heading back to the studio.  I finished blocks at Scrap Happy months ago that have been lying on the back of the sofa, and I finally got some of them put together:

before collapsing in front of the TV.

SHQ day at my house

I was up early Thursday morning (3/26) and got home from my short bike ride before my honey left for golf at 8:20 AM.  I got through my emails and blog posting before Paula arrived to spend the day sewing.  We thought we’d have a mini-Scrap Happy Retreat and we had a wonderful time:

our ironing station

our sewing/cutting station, 6 feet apart

she's working on a new pattern QoV

lunch from Habit burger....no wonder Paula has been talking about this...
it was YUMMY!!!!

Cookie moved from chair to chair

I worked on my one block wonder blocks

Just before she left (around 3 PM) I asked if she wanted to leave her stuff and come back tomorrow…..and she said ‘oh….a 2 day retreat….sure!’
I relaxed in the afternoon, had a quick dinner and got the strips cut and sewn together for the second border on the men’s quilt before joining my honey in the media room.

panckaes & bacon, furry kids, men's quilt moving along

I had a phone consult with my knee doctor first thing Wednesday morning (3/25).  He pulled up my x-rays from 5 years ago and said given that it’s 5 years later, cortisone shots wouldn’t help me (YAY – ‘cause I really wasn’t interested in those) and I definitely need knee replacement.  So, when this COVID crisis is over, and elective surgeries are off of hold, I will be put on the list.

After that it was pecan pancakes and bacon for breakfast:

I cleaned up the kitchen just a bit and my honey said he would take over from there, so I headed downstairs to SKYPE with Janice.  We had a wonderful time talking, and I got her opinion on several upcoming quilt-y things before we signed off and I gave Pat a call.  We talked for a bit before I changed my clothes and Michael and I went for a short bike ride. Short, because it has been several (many?) years since we’ve gone, and both of our knees were hurting.  But, I hope to keep it up to strengthen my thigh muscles before potential surgery, as Pat indicated that that would definitely help with my recovery (not to mention my diabetes!).

Finally at 1:30 PM I made it to my studio to start quilt-y stuff for the day  :~).  I got the quilting kicked off on the second QoV:

same pattern as the first, but with gold thread

and worked on the first of my men’s quilts.  Michael came down to work on his computer, so of course Cookie:

and Lucy:

joined us.  I later found Ethel, sitting in the sun upstairs:

By 8 PM (when I headed upstairs to relax), I was 3/4 of the way done with the quilting, and I had all of my rows sewn together on the men’s quilt and the skinny inner border on:
